winter at its best…{just one}

Yesterday we had a little bit of magic visit our neighbourhood and Miss Liv experienced her first taste of snow….literally! Seriously, after we explained to her that snow was like ice she would not stop trying to eat it! Now that is SO Liv ; ) Clearly however, you can see that I was hardly discouraging her!

Anyway, I kinda love this photo and was so thrilled that we finally had a visit from true winter this year. Of course, I was also thankful for a hot bath and a warm dinner afterwards : )

three weeks…{family shoot}

This gorgeous three week old baby boy is not only pretty darn adorable but also happens to be the son of a photographer! James (or Hitman Photography) is an experienced wedding and portrait photographer and has been a great help to me in the early stages of my ‘business’ by encouraging me and kindly sending referrals my way. I know, pretty great hey?! (Go and check out his skills here.)

Now, I’m not going to lie, photographing a photographer is pretty nerve racking! I mean, what if you don’t do it right?! But of course these guys were the furthest thing from intimidating and just completely lovely and easygoing. It was a real pleasure to shoot them and was especially great to know that I was finally making James get some time in front of the lens!

So anyways, here they are in all their cuteness!

PS. The couple of frames from the bottom of this post show James on his mission to try and get the dummy out of the shot! Typical photographer attitude! ; )

This family shoot was great! Not only because this lovely five were cute, fun and wonderful but mostly because they were just themselves, and for me that’s what family shoots should be about. You don’t need to worry if your house is unorganized, or your children are half dressed or if someone is having a tantrum. Trust me, I’ve seen it all before, I know what it’s like, it’s life…..and it’s just the way it should be. This family welcomed me into their home, they cooked together, played, laughed, cried, were noisy and busy, and all that other true to life stuff that happens in real families. I loved it and was so pleased to just snap away and let them ‘be’.

So, anyway here are some of my favourites from their session. As you can clearly see the three girls are just darling and the afternoon light was splendid. I honestly could have followed these guys around and photographed them all afternoon….but I try to avoid photographer turned stalker tendencies! ; )

John&Amy {almost married}

I spent a great afternoon with these two gorgeous people roaming about the Hobart waterfront and getting to know them a little better. Of course the session just confirmed what I already knew; John and Amy are fun, relaxed, super friendly and in love! Amy has the best laugh and a great smile and John knows just how to make her giggle. I love that!

John and Amy thanks so much for willingly following me on my ‘guided tour’ of historical Hobart! I had such a great time with you both and I can’t wait to see you all ready to tie the knot in September : )

Just another little post about a few things that make me smile, get me motivated and feed my imagination.

Instax Mini:

First up, the newest addition to my camera family, my fuji-instax mini. It’s cute, it’s white and it takes adorable little instant polaroid style pics. Seriously, I am just having so much fun with this camera! I love the instant gratification, the simplicity, and most of all watching as the image slowly appears on the film. Brilliant! ; )

Sofia Coppola:

I just love the way this woman sees the world and the magic she creates on film. I know her movies may seem a little bizarre but I just can’t help but get drawn into the colour, the light, and the beauty she captures. I’m an especially huge fan of ‘Lost in Translation’ and ‘Marie Antoniette’. Oh, and I also just discovered this super cute add she directed for Dior. It’s all pastels and pretty! ; ) And if you like you can check it out here.

Katy Perry:

Okay, so before you judge HEAR ME OUT! I know there are probably plenty of you out there who would rather poke your own eyes out than listen to pop music…..and fair enough! But honestly, this album has some truly awesome upbeat tunes and is the B-E-S-T for listening to when exercising! I’m telling you it’s only because of this girl and her perky beats that I walk faster than I ever have before. Infact, I even ran the other day! Yes, ran! And I’m not a runner (because I’m mostly unco and likely to trip and fall on my face)! The only bad thing about having Miss Katy pumping through my headphones while I hit the pavement, is that I feel oh so tempted to break out into some crazy dance moves…..; )

I know, I know, I’m sharing two self-pics when really I’m only supposed to have one but well…..whatever. I’ve had a mostly crap week and playing around with my camera has been pretty much a guaranteed way to make me feel less like a total grumpfest! Yes, I did just say ‘grumpfest’. It’s a perfectly valid word in our household ; )

So anyway, this is July and can I just say I seriously believe this year is going by in fast-forward! Honestly, these days I feel like my life is one of those musical montages they have in films where a whole year passes by in the length of time it takes to play a song. Truly!
